What is Safety Culture?
Recently, the term “safety culture” has become very trendy. More than just a buzzword, culture refers to the way things are done safely at your workplace.
Rather than referring to your company’s specific safety policy and program, safety culture encapsulates the mindsets, attitudes, and behaviours of workers, supervisors, managers, and owners toward safety in the workplace. A positive safety culture is a vital part of a successful and effective health and safety management system.
You may find the idea of building or changing your culture daunting because the “way it is” at your workplace has fallen into a pattern of complacency. The effects of complacency can be catastrophic: accidents, injuries, illnesses, even loss of life could result. Don’t allow this to happen in your workplace.
Six tips to help you build and maintain a positive culture:
- Communicate
- Provide HSE Training
- Lead by example
- Develop and implement a positive reporting process
- Involve workers and collaborate
- Put your safety management system into action
”Measuring performance by the number of injuries you have is like measuring parenting by the number of smacks you give.-Dr. Robert Long
The Big Oxmox advised her not to do so, because there were thousands of bad Commas, wild Question Marks and devious Semikoli, but the Little Blind Text didn’t listen. She packed her seven versalia, put her initial into the belt and made herself on the way. When she reached the first hills of the Italic Mountains, she had a last view back on the skyline of her hometown Bookmarksgrove, the headline of Alphabet Village and the subline of her own road, the Line Lane. Pityful a rethoric question ran over her cheek, then she continued her way. On her way she met a copy.
